The mission of the Fund for Women of the Southern Tier is to help girls and women achieve economic self-sufficiency and realize life goals. The targeted focus of the Fund for Women of the Southern Tier is for programs/projects that support the education and/or health of girls and women. Grants are made annually on a competitive basis. Focus Areas The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier focuses on grants that help girls and women achieve economic self-sufficiency and realize life goals through grants in the areas of education, health, wellness, career, and life skills. Award Amount Up to $2500 for individuals; amount varies for non-profit organizations

Eligibility

Who May Apply?Non-profits: Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations located in and serving the citizens of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and/or Yates counties. The fund will make grant awards within the same geographic areas as the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties of New York.Individuals: Applicants must live and/or work in the greater Southern Tier region. The fund will make grant awards within the same geographic area as the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc., Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties of New York.The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to ten, $500 grants to girls and women.  These grants are to be used to remove any barrier to the pursuit of their educational endeavors. Examples may include paying for college textbooks, technical supplies, assistance with past due tuition bills, fees for professional licensing exams, etc. Award criteria includes a demonstrated financial need.The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to four, $2,500 educational scholarships. All scholarships are based on demonstrated financial need.Proposals from faith-based organizations will only be considered if:service benefits all, regardless of religion; service provided is not religious in nature; and there is no proselytizing associated with the service.Characteristics of eligible grant funded programs/projects include and must demonstrate that they are:open and accessible to the greater communityopen to all regardless of religious affiliationavailable to low-income or underserved individuals

Ineligibility

Organizations may not submit more than one application for funding at a time. The Fund for Women generally does not make grants for the following:Annual campaigns, special event fundraisers or sponsorshipsReligious purposesPolitical or partisan purposesActivities taking place before grant decisions are madeTrips for schools or clubsDeficit funding or debt retirement
