Fund for Chesapeake Sailors

Purpose: Provides grants to those member sailors involved in campaigns for the Olympics, and National and International regattas and championships.

Eligibility:

  • CBYRA member sailors

  • Individuals or teams competing in ladder and championship events

  • Events associated with CBYRA, US SAILING, or CBYRA Member Organizations

    • Geographic Scope: Chesapeake Bay region (Maryland and surrounding areas)

    Focus Areas:

  • Olympic campaigns

  • National regattas and championships

  • International regattas and championships

  • Ladder events

    • Restrictions:

  • Donations may not be designated to any specific sailor or campaign

  • All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law

    • Review Criteria - Preference Given To:

  • Individual or team campaigns who qualify or are selected based on résumé for ladder and championship events associated with CBYRA, US SAILING, or CBYRA Member Organizations

  • Prestigious and unique events offering outstanding competition

    • Grant Committee:

  • CBYRA Treasurer (Chair)

  • Four Division representatives: Junior, Handicap, One Design, and Cruising One Design

  • Meets within one month of annual budget approval, then in March, May, July, and October

  • May meet in special session as required

    • Payment Terms:

  • Payment made after completion of event/activity and receipt of vendor invoices

  • Unless specifically authorized by CBYRA Executive Committee

  • Applicant must provide full accounting of receipts and costs

    • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Submission Requirements:
    Applications must be submitted in writing to the Chair of the Grant Committee (treasurer@cbyra.org)

    Deadlines:
    Applications must be submitted before the first day of:

  • December

  • March

  • May

  • July

  • October

    • First Page Must Include:
    1. Party requesting a grant
    2. Contact information
    3. Event/activity schedule and location
    4. Uses to which the granted funds would be applied
    5. Target audience and projected attendance
    6. Amount requested

    Additional Pages Must Include:
    1. Complete budget for the event/activity
    2. Other sources of funding and amounts
    3. Additional detail pages may be provided in support of the grant request

    Additional Materials:
    CBYRA may require additional materials to be submitted at its discretion upon review of the above materials.

    Review and Decision:

  • Grant Committee reviews applications

  • Committee decides which applications, if any, will be funded

  • Committee determines level of funding to be allocated to each event/activity

    • Publicity Requirements:
    When approved by the Executive Committee:

  • Recipients shall publicize their funding by CBYRA through all appropriate means

  • Wear CBYRA pinnies during racing

  • Fly CBYRA flags

  • Acknowledge CBYRA support in interviews

  • Notice published on CBYRA website

  • Host Club notified

  • Division Representatives notify relevant Classes
