Francis Grants

The Francis Grants, established by Catholic Extension, offer funding for significant events in poor mission dioceses, such as the ordination of new Bishops, anniversaries, or papal visits. These grants also support educational endeavors for Bishops. Named in honor of Francis Clement Kelly, Francis Cardinal George OMI, and Pope Francis, the program aims to strengthen the Catholic faith across the U.S. Since 1905, Catholic Extension has invested over $500 million to assist communities in need.

Since 1905, Catholic Extension has distributed over $500 million to communities across America.
Francis Grants are special funding opportunities to assist a diocese in special monumental events such as the ordination of a new Bishop, a special diocesan anniversary, or a visit from the Pope. Francis Grants can also be requested to assist with the personal continued education of a diocese’s Bishop. This funding is named in honor of Catholic Extension Society’s founder, Francis Clement Kelly, our former Chancellor Francis Cardinal George OMI, and Pope Francis.

Eligibility

Catholic Extension provides funding directly to poor dioceses that are pre-approved by Catholic Extension’s Board of Governors.

Ineligibility

Funding is not available to individuals or organizations that do not work in these specified mission dioceses.Catholic Extension never provides funding directly to regional or national Catholic organizations. However, they may work as partners with Catholic Extension to provide services to a mission diocese.
