Foundation Grant Giving Program

Mission: Promote access to justice by providing financial grants to nonprofit legal service organizations in support of free, civil legal assistance to low-income Arizonans.

Geographic Scope: Arizona

Funding Cycle

• Calendar Year: January 1 – December 31 (unless otherwise stated)
• Application Period: Usually posted online in mid-September, closes within 30 days
• Award Notification: Mid-December
• Current Status: The Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education is not currently accepting grant applications. Applicants should check back when the grant application process reopens.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors to receive grant awards
• For some Foundation grants, applicants must also be recognized by the Arizona Supreme Court as an approved legal service organization
• Provide civil legal advice, limited scope services, or representation in Arizona to low-income Arizonans at no cost
• Complete and return the Foundation Grant Giving Program Application and any requested documents by the due date

Board Approval for Non-Approved Organizations

Legal service organizations not already approved to apply for grant funds may:

• Complete a Board Approved Organization Application and return it with a completed grant application, OR
• Submit the application any time outside of the open grant period

Application Process

1. Wait for Application Period: Applications are usually posted online in mid-September
2. Obtain Application Materials: Download the Foundation Grant Giving Program Application from the website
3. Prepare Required Documents: Complete all requested documents as instructed
4. Submit by Deadline: Return completed application and documents by the stated due date (typically within 30 days of posting)
5. Award Notification: Applicants will be notified of grant award status in mid-December
