Foundation for PALTC Grant

Geographic Scope: United States (Maryland-based funder)

    Purpose

    The intent of this grant is to generate new information and formulate improved management strategies for residents of post-acute and long-term care facilities. Specific questions of interest include but are not limited to:
  • Develop new, evidence-based and actionable guidance and tools specific to PALTC
  • Advance quality and improve care in post-acute and long-term care settings
  • Advance training of competent clinicians in PALTC
  • Determine optimal methods of adopting and implementing Age-Friendly care in nursing homes

    Funding Information

  • Award Amount: Up to $25,000 (combined direct and indirect costs, with indirect limited to 7% of total)
  • Project Duration: Must be feasible to accomplish in 12 months
  • Funding Timeline: Letter of Inquiry deadline April 13, 2026; Full proposals due July 13, 2026; Award notification estimated September 1, 2026

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Conducted in long-term care setting
  • Feasible to accomplish in 12 months
  • Demonstrates collaboration with facility staff
  • Awardee is not a recipient of another Foundation for PALTC grant award
  • Must have Investigational Review Board (IRB) approval or waiver before funding is provided

    Evaluation Criteria for Letters of Inquiry

  • Project need is clearly stated
  • Project is strategically important to PALTmed and PALTC
  • Objectives are specifically stated and measurable
  • Methods (activities) are feasible within budget
  • Applicant(s) has a high likelihood of success

    Evaluation Criteria for Full Research Proposals

  • Significance: Does the work align with Foundation's vision of fulfilling unmet educational, training, and scientific innovation?
  • Investigator Capabilities: Evidence of success in previous research activities, grant awards, and publication history; letters of support from collaborators
  • Innovation: Does proposal reflect innovative thinking and solutions to identified unmet needs?
  • Soundness of Approach: Sufficient evidence of sound methodology, knowledge of field, clear and measurable objectives, realistic and achievable goals
  • Environment: Organizational capacity to fulfill project requirements and support investigators
  • Budget: Clear definition of resources/equipment/tools; if salary support requested, clear delineation of roles; if partial funding of larger project, other funds secured

  • Investigator-initiated research projects addressing critical clinical, educational, and systems-based challenges in PALTC settings
  • Projects aligned with PALTmed vision and mission

    What They Don't Fund

  • Projects by applicants who are recipients of another Foundation for PALTC grant award (concurrently)
  • Projects without IRB approval or waiver
  • Projects not conducted in long-term care settings
  • Projects not feasible within 12 months

How to Apply

Application Process

#### Step 1: Submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI)
Deadline: April 13, 2026

LOI Requirements:

  • Length: 1-2 pages

  • Format: Typed, double-spaced, Arial font size 11

  • Content to include:

  • - Project purpose and study objectives
    - Planned methods to achieve the objectives
    - Expected outcomes
    - Breakdown estimate of direct costs, including equipment and personnel

    LOI Submission: Submit online at paltcfoundation.org

    #### Step 2: Submit Full Research Proposal (by invitation only)
    Deadline: July 13, 2026 (approximately 3 months after LOI notification)

    Proposal Format:

  • Typed, double-spaced

  • Arial font, size 11

  • Approximately 6 pages
  • Required Proposal Sections (character limits noted):
    1. Project Purpose (Executive Summary) - 1,700 characters
    2. Specific Aims and Design - 1,700 characters
    3. Background - 3,400 characters
    4. Methods and Research Plan (including data analysis) - 3,400 characters
    5. Timeline and Evaluation Table - 1,700 characters
    6. Dissemination and Next Steps - 1,700 characters
    7. Key Personnel - 3,400 characters
    8. Significance to the PALTC Mission - 1,700 characters
    9. Budget Narrative - 1,700 characters
    10. References - 1,700 characters

    Required Appendices:

  • i) Biographical sketch or curriculum vitae of primary investigator(s)

  • ii) Budget (separate template provided)
  • Important Note: Observe and comply with all character limits.
