Filling Iowa's Need for Dentists (FIND) Program

Program Type: Dental professional recruitment and retention program

Geographic Scope: Iowa's rural and underserved communities

Purpose: Recruit and retain dentists in Iowa's rural communities by providing funding assistance to help offset dental school student loan payments.

    Key Features

  • Local Matching Requirement: Communities must provide local matching funds (e.g., $5,000 per dentist) to demonstrate commitment to supporting new dentists
  • Program Partners: Delta Dental of Iowa and Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation, Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Iowa Area Development Group, Iowa Dental Association, Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, and numerous local organizations
  • Impact: Since launch in 2002, FIND has supported 61 dentists, resulting in over 350,000 patient visits for underserved Iowans
