NOTE: Up to 700 total scholarship applications will be accepted. If/when a category reaches its cap, the application will no longer allow submissions. If you see the category is closed prior to the May 1 deadline, that means it has reached its limit of applicants and you are unable to apply. Family Medicine Leads Scholarships for National Conference Providing Family Medicine Leads Scholarships for Family Medicine residents and medical students to attend AAFP FUTURE (formerly National Conference), our goal is to support students' and residents' commitment to the specialty of Family Medicine. The AAFP Foundation is pleased to continue supporting family medicine residents and medical students to attend the FUTURE. Since 2002, the number of funded scholarships over 5,175 with awards totaling more than $2.3M. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we continue to provide a minimum of 250 Family Medicine Leads (FM Leads) Scholarships for the AAFP FUTURE residents and medical students can have the opportunity to experience and explore family medicine through educational programming and procedural workshops, leadership opportunities, and interaction and networking with family physicians and peers from across the country. Early Career Student (Rising MS/OMS 1–3) Students who wish to apply for this award must complete an online application that includes three essay questions. You must be an MS/OMS 1–3 student during the 2026-27 academic year to apply. Funding The number of scholarships in each category varies from year to year depending on the funding level and number of applicants. The $600 scholarship is intended to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses (registration, travel, lodging, meals) to attend FUTURE. All scholarship checks are awarded at FUTURE. If you are unable to meet the attendance requirement or attend the conference for any reason, your scholarship will be forfeited.Eligibility

You must be a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) to apply.New or lapsed memberships may take one week to process. Please plan accordingly, as late applications will not be accepted. You may apply to one scholarship category each year (i.e. if you apply for the Student Primary Care Champion Scholarship, you may not also apply for FMIG Leaders).You are not eligible to apply if you previously received a FUTURE or National Conference Scholarship from the AAFP Foundation (excluding Emerging Leader Institute or National Conference Virtual Scholarships).Scholarships are based on your status during the 2026-27 academic year. Please apply to categories accordingly.You must be able to attend the entire FUTURE (defined as arriving no later than noon on Thursday, July 30, and leaving no earlier than noon on Saturday, August 1).You must agree to the Family Medicine Leads Scholarship Agreement.
