The Fall Programs Grants: PTA Connected: The Smart Talk program invites local PTAs to apply for $1,500 in funding to promote digital safety and healthy technology use among families. Designed for students aged 5-17, the program encourages meaningful conversations about device use, safety, and online representation. With support from the National Congress of Parents & Teachers, the initiative aims to help families develop customized technology agreements, fostering a collaborative approach to digital well-being.

Overview

This program is for all grades and ages. Twenty (20) local PTAs will be selected, and each will be awarded $1,500 in funding. All programs must be completed by the end of March. The Smart Talk enables students ages 5-17 and their parents/caregivers to collaborate in making household decisions and rules around device use, digital safety, privacy, communication and media. Guided by the dynamic programming of The Smart Talk tool, each family will have a customized, detailed “technology agreement” based on their individual responses. Conversations that Click The Smart Talk is a free tool that helps caregivers and kids (ages five to 17) have positive, proactive technology conversations and set healthy digital limits together. If we want our kids to be safe, kind and responsible online, we need to have ongoing conversations with them about: When and how they use their devices Ways to keep themselves safe How they are representing themselves online Families using the free The Smart Talk website are guided through topic areas to create a personalized technology agreement that helps keep everyone on track.
