ESSC Winter Snow Sports Fund

Overview: The Eastern Slope Ski Club's Winter Snow Sports Award Fund provides scholarships for on-snow athletes competing in Alpine, Nordic, and Snowboarding disciplines. Scholarships are available every season and are allocated based on financial needs.

Geographic Scope: Carroll County, NH

Focus Areas:

  • Alpine skiing

  • Nordic (cross-country) skiing

  • Snowboarding
  • Award Amounts by Program Type:

  • Skill development season-long programs: up to 20% of tuition

  • USSA racing (local mountain race programs, U10-U14 non-scored racing): up to 30%

  • USSA and FIS racing for MWVST athletes U16 and up (scored racing): up to 40%
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Carroll County

  • Currently enrolled in grades 3-12

  • Must abide by the ESSC Code of Conduct

  • All past program balances must be paid in full

  • Committed to full attendance in program
  • Conditions for Scholarship Awards:

  • Letter of Acceptance: Recipients must acknowledge selection with a letter of acceptance to the Board of Directors

  • Letter of Thanks: Recipients must submit a thank-you letter post-season; copy required to be eligible for future scholarships

  • Volunteer Requirement: Student/athlete or family member must volunteer at ESSC fundraisers (Annual Ski Sale in November and Red Parka Challenge Race in March)

  • Photo Opportunity: Recipient must be available for photos upon receiving support
  • Organization: Eastern Slope Ski Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization

    Background: Named after Sean Doherty, Olympic Biathlete (2014 Winter Olympics)

    ESSC Scholarship Application Process

    Required Application Materials:

    1. Scholarship Application Form
    - Only one form required per family

    2. Financial Documentation
    - 2024 Tax Returns
    - Two-parent households filing separate returns must attach 2024 tax returns from both individuals
    - All information is confidential

    3. Explanatory Letter
    - Separate sheet of paper
    - Minimum 250 words
    - Explain why you are requesting a scholarship

    4. Program Registration and Deposit
    - Completed registration
    - Deposit for program (must be paid in full)

    5. Two Recommendations
    - From teachers and/or coaches
