Summary

This initiative aims to bolster public health systems in India by enhancing their capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease outbreaks. Through collaboration with the Government of India, the program seeks to strengthen disease control mechanisms, transition initiatives to local institutions, and align with global health regulations. Key focus areas include workforce development, disease surveillance, laboratory systems, emergency preparedness, and addressing antimicrobial resistance, ultimately contributing to a more resilient public health infrastructure.

Overview

This NOFO’s purpose is to support district, state and national public health systems in India to advance GHSA priorities to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease threats. CDC will work with the Government of India (GoI) to strengthen capacity to control disease outbreaks at their source and neutralize public health threats. This NOFO will augment and increasingly transition CDC-supported GHSA initiatives to GoI institutions including the National Centre for Disease Control, National Health Mission, Indian Council of Medical Research, National Disaster Management Authority, National Institute of Disaster Management and All Indian Institute of Medical Science. The core aim is to enhance India’s public health capacity through a One Health approach in alignment with the International Health Regulations in five key areas: public health workforce; disease surveillance; laboratory systems; emergency preparedness and response; and antimicrobial resistance.
