Overview

Endowed Scholarships

Overview: Donors can establish an endowed scholarship fund that supports students in perpetuity. Endowments provide permanent, sustainable funding for scholarships with awards given out annually from interest earnings.

Minimum Requirement: $25,000 minimum to establish an endowed scholarship at Western Washington University.

Award Allocation: Scholarships are awarded out of the endowment account in perpetuity via an allocation from interest earnings each year. The typical allocation rate is 4% at WWU.

Growth: Interest earned above the 4% allocation is reinvested into the endowed scholarship fund to help it grow. A 1.5% gift assessment and 0.30% investment management fee are deducted to help with administration of the fund.

Flexible Giving: If the initial intent is to establish an endowment, gifts can be made over five years after account establishment to allow donations to total $25,000 or more.

Growth Potential: The larger the endowment, the larger the annual scholarship award will be.
