Endowed Scholarships

Donors can establish an endowed scholarship fund that supports students in perpetuity. Endowments provide permanent, sustainable funding for scholarships with awards given out annually from interest earnings.

Minimum Requirement: $25,000 minimum to establish an endowed scholarship at Western Washington University.

Award Allocation: Scholarships are awarded out of the endowment account in perpetuity via an allocation from interest earnings each year. The typical allocation rate is 4% at WWU.

Growth: Interest earned above the 4% allocation is reinvested into the endowed scholarship fund to help it grow. A 1.5% gift assessment and 0.30% investment management fee are deducted to help with administration of the fund.

Flexible Giving: If the initial intent is to establish an endowment, gifts can be made over five years after account establishment to allow donations to total $25,000 or more.

Growth Potential: The larger the endowment, the larger the annual scholarship award will be.
