Emerging Leaders Program

Organization: Emgage Foundation Inc

Overview: The Emerging Leaders Program seeks to mentor the next generation of Muslim American civic leaders by connecting them to and training them with expert practitioners in the field. The program selects a class of Emerging Leaders in each of Emgage's state chapters once a year.

Program Components

The program includes three components with in-person and/or virtual sessions:

1. In-Class Education & Training (minimum two full days, preferably weekend Saturday/Sunday)
- Storytelling
- Civic Engagement & Organizing
- Politics
- Policy
- Participants learn how to build coalitions, establish change, navigate the political landscape, and implement best practices for policy change

2. Organizing Day (field-based, ideally before Get Out The Vote period)
- Door-knocking and canvassing with expert organizer support
- Direct community engagement
- Voter mobilization
- Educational resource distribution
- Civic engagement advocacy

3. Policy Advocacy Day
- Meet directly with legislators at City Hall or Capitol Building
- Advocate for policy priorities important to Muslim Americans
- Led by seasoned policy advocates
- Can serve as a Muslim Capitol Day

Training Topics

Participants learn from Emgage staff, board members, and outside experts on:

  • How to mobilize voters

  • Community organizing

  • U.S. foreign policy

  • Effective advocacy
  • Post-Completion Opportunities

    Upon completion, Emgage may offer qualified participants internship, fellowship, or employment opportunities depending on organizational needs.

  • Special Initiative: Dr. Abdul Rashid Piracha Emerging Leaders Fund

    Available in Virginia

  • Honors the legacy of former Virginia Co-Chair Dr. Abdul Rashid Piracha

  • Invests in next generation of leaders through:

  • - Advocacy workshops
    - Student organizing roles
    - Pakistan engagement
    - Congressional allyship
