Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) for the Elderly
Program Type: Emergency energy assistance for low-income elderly households
Geographic Scope: Available in the following Florida counties only: Collier, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Martin, Polk, and St. Lucie
Overview: Provides emergency home energy assistance for elderly individuals. Applications may be submitted through the same application process as LIHEAP.
Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must:
Application Frequency
- Individual applications for electric emergency assistance are accepted once every six months
- Applications exceeding this frequency limit will be denied
Required Documentation
- Photo ID (not expired) for all household members over 18 years of age
- Social Security Cards for all household members
- Proof of Income for the past 30 days for all household members (no bank statements)
- Complete Light Bill (no Final Notice)
- Food Stamp Approval Letter (if receiving assistance)
- Section 8 or HUD Housing Rental Form 50059 (if applicable)

3. Complete the online application form
4. Upload scanned or photographed documentation

In-Person Application Process
1. Call 863-247-3001 to schedule an in-person appointment
2. Appointments are on a first come, first served basis
3. When appointment slots are filled, the phone system will no longer make appointments
4. Bring all required documentation to your appointment
Required Documents to Submit
- Photo ID (not expired) for all household members over 18 years of age
- Social Security Cards for all household members
- Proof of Income for the past 30 days for all household members (no bank statements)
- Complete Light Bill (no Final Notice)
- Food Stamp Approval Letter (if receiving assistance)

Document Scanning Instructions
- Documents can be scanned using a desk scanner
- Or take clear pictures of documents with a phone or tablet
- Upload to online application
Important Notes
- Applications will not be processed without required documents
- Walk-ins are not accepted; appointments required for in-person service
- If you cannot apply online due to all 30 daily slots being filled, try again the next business day
