Elsevier/VSS Young Investigator Award

Funder: Vision Sciences Society, sponsored by Elsevier and Vision Research

Status: Active award program (established 2007)

Purpose: Awarded annually to an outstanding visual scientist who has received an advanced degree within the past 10 years.

Geographic Scope: International (VSS members)

Eligibility:

  • Must have received advanced degree within past 10 years

  • No more than 10 years of active research/teaching experience (excludes time on academic tenure track "stop the clock")

  • Must be an active VSS member

  • Must have attended two of the last five VSS Meetings

  • Applicants must be nominated by a VSS member (self-nominations not accepted)

  • Members of the Award Committee and VSS Board of Directors cannot serve as nominators

    • Award Details:

  • Includes honorarium

  • Recipient must give presentation at annual VSS meeting

  • Recipient must prepare featured review article for Vision Research

  • Award presented at VSS annual meeting

    • Focus Areas: All areas of vision science

    Nomination-Based: Award is by nomination only (not direct application)

    Required Materials:
    1. Letter of recommendation with detailed description of nominee's scientific contributions
    2. One additional letter of support
    3. Curriculum vitae of nominee

    Submission Format:

  • Submit by email to VSS

    • Re-nomination: Nominees from previous years may be re-nominated if still eligible; new nomination letter required

    Reviewer: Young Investigator Award Committee (five established visual scientists selected from VSS membership)
