Who We Are The European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) is a non-profit organisation and an independent representative European-wide organisation devoted to multiple sclerosis (MS). It serves as Europe’s and the world’s largest professional organisation dedicated to the understanding and treatment of MS. Mission To facilitate communication, create synergies, and promote and enhance research and learning among professionals for the ultimate benefit of people affected by MS. Vision ECTRIMS works with researchers and clinicians of its member countries and with other organisations that share similar missions and objectives on a worldwide scale, creating networking and collaboration opportunities. The ultimate goal of ECTRIMS is to improve basic and clinical research and clinical outcomes in MS. Goals To support and promote basic and clinical research in MS in Europe and liaise with other related organisations on a worldwide scale.To support education and teaching opportunities for professionals that enhance their ability to deliver quality clinical care.To act as a representative of the MS research community in its member countries.To be actively involved in coordinating initiatives in research and clinical care both in Europe and worldwide.To organise annual congresses.To organise workshops and related teaching activities in the field of MS.To initiate, support or endorse European activities of outstanding relevance to MS.To encourage young researchers in the field of MS by promoting learning, training and exchange programmes. Clinical Training Fellowship ECTRIMS offers a Clinical Training Fellowship Programme for neurologists and other physicians to provide the opportunity for successful candidates to learn the latest techniques in patient management and care and to help foster their careers as MS physicians. The training period must be under the direction of a senior clinical mentor at a European MS clinic and/or research center and can run for 3 months, 6 months or 1 year in duration. Support ECTRIMS will provide a stipend of 13,750.00 EUR for a three-month programme, 27,500.00 EUR for a six-month programme, or 55,000.00 EUR for a one-year training programme.ECTRIMS will also provide economy transportation from the successful candidate’s home location to and from the training city; travel expenses for family members cannot be provided. Transportation expenses will be reimbursed directly to the fellow, upon submission of receipts to ECTRIMS.Payment from ECTRIMS will be made to the host institution, which will be consideredthe employer of the fellow. You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. Fellow EligibilityCandidates must hold an MD or equivalent medical degree prior to application for the training programme. Medically trained candidates with a specialty interest in neurology or any other field of medicine that is related and important to MS care and management are eligible (for instance, electrophysiology, physiatry/rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, etc.).Candidates and their mentors must affirm that there will be no language barriers that will impede the training experience.Clinical Training LocationThe fellowship period will be spent in a European clinic focused on problems associated with MS.For fellowship applicants who are European citizens, the clinic should be located in a different European country from that of the fellow’s citizenship.For all applicants, the fellowship must take place at a different institute and in a different country than the fellow’s current placement of 12 months or longer.These conditions are in place to facilitate the programme’s goal of cross border exchange.Exceptions may be considered under special circumstances, which must be detailed in the application process.The prospective fellow must determine in advance the fellowship location and identify a proposed mentor, all of which will be considered along with the fellow’s own qualifications and training plan, in the review and selection process.The mentor and their institution must provide a certification that the proposed training fellow will be allowed to undertake patient care in the institution, given that in most situations it is expected that the candidate’s medical education will have taken place in a different country from the training site.Focus Areas & Funding Uses
