Early Career Mentoring Program

Program Objectives
Designed for faculty members who wish to:- Receive formal mentoring throughout your career
- Receive coaching that helps you progress professionally and set a path for promotion
- List longitudinal mentoring program as a component of faculty development for promotion
- Become eligible for the annual Faculty Professional Development monetary award by meeting with your mentor during the academic year
Program Benefits
- Must be a School of Medicine faculty member
Eligibility Requirements
- Scheduled formal mentoring sessions with a trained mentor to review progress, provide advice, and suggest resources for continued career development
- Setting SMART goals and reviewing School of Medicine promotion guidelines
- Ways to strengthen your application based on levels of intensity for scholarly activity (teaching, service, clinical practice, and research) to ensure goals align with promotion and career fulfillment
- Opportunities available from the Office of Professional Development to gain knowledge and enhance skills
Program Components
Geographic Scope
UMKC School of Medicine faculty- Mentors and mentees do not need to be from the same department, division, section, or affiliate
- Focus is on pairing people who share similar academic goals
- The ability to accommodate mentees may be limited due to the number of trained mentors available during each academic year
- Early applications are advised
