Early Career Mentoring Program

Target Audience: Junior faculty (assistant professors)

    Program Objectives

    Designed for faculty members who wish to:
  • Develop their skills
  • Progress professionally toward promotion
  • Pursue leadership opportunities

  • Receive coaching that helps you progress professionally and set a path for promotion
  • List longitudinal mentoring program as a component of faculty development for promotion
  • Become eligible for the annual Faculty Professional Development monetary award by meeting with your mentor during the academic year

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a School of Medicine faculty member

    Program Components

  • Scheduled formal mentoring sessions with a trained mentor to review progress, provide advice, and suggest resources for continued career development
  • Setting SMART goals and reviewing School of Medicine promotion guidelines
  • Ways to strengthen your application based on levels of intensity for scholarly activity (teaching, service, clinical practice, and research) to ensure goals align with promotion and career fulfillment
  • Opportunities available from the Office of Professional Development to gain knowledge and enhance skills

  • Mentors and mentees do not need to be from the same department, division, section, or affiliate
  • Focus is on pairing people who share similar academic goals
  • The ability to accommodate mentees may be limited due to the number of trained mentors available during each academic year
