DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award

Purpose: Recognition of meritorious service to the law and community by a South Carolina Bar member.

Geographic Scope: South Carolina

Focus Areas:

Recognized service to law and community

Excellence in legal practice

Public interest and pro bono work

Community leadership

History: Established in 1980 in memory of Charlton DuRant, a Manning attorney who served as state senator and special associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.

Award Significance: One of the most prestigious statewide honors that members of the Bar can bestow on a fellow attorney.

Eligibility:

Living member of the South Carolina Bar

Sitting judges and current public office holders are NOT eligible

Past service in judicial/public office positions will be considered

Selection Process:

Recipients nominated by professional peers

Selected by South Carolina Bar Foundation Board

Award traditionally presented at Bar Convention's plenary luncheon each January
