DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award

Purpose: Recognition of meritorious service to the law and community by a South Carolina Bar member.

Geographic Scope: South Carolina

Focus Areas:

  • Community leadership
  • History: Established in 1980 in memory of Charlton DuRant, a Manning attorney who served as state senator and special associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.

    Award Significance: One of the most prestigious statewide honors that members of the Bar can bestow on a fellow attorney.

    Eligibility:

  • Living member of the South Carolina Bar

  • Sitting judges and current public office holders are NOT eligible

  • Past service in judicial/public office positions will be considered
  • Selection Process:

  • Recipients nominated by professional peers

  • Selected by South Carolina Bar Foundation Board

  • Award traditionally presented at Bar Convention's plenary luncheon each January
