Dr. Frank Groner Administrative Fellowship Program

Overview: An immersive, one-year training opportunity designed to develop the next generation of health care leaders. Fellows learn and work under the guidance of executive-level leadership within Baptist Memorial Health Care, a large not-for-profit health care system with 24 hospitals across Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Program Duration: June through May of the following year

Geographic Scope: Three-state region (Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee)

Program Structure

The fellowship is organized into three phases:

Phase 1 - Corporate Office Training:

  • Time spent in corporate offices learning overall system management

  • Focus on system support services including:

  • - Strategic planning
    - Operational management
    - Managed care
    - Finance
    - Human resources
    - Quality
    - Legal
    - Marketing
    - Government relations
    - Clinical service lines (cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, and others)

    Phase 2 - Operating Entity Exposure:

  • Experience across all 24 hospitals

  • Baptist Medical Group clinics (900+ providers)

  • Outpatient surgery and imaging centers

  • Home care services

  • Hospice services

  • Emergency services

  • Telemedicine operations
  • Phase 3 - Leadership Development:

  • Apply knowledge and develop management skills

  • Support and lead innovation teams

  • Active participation in health system projects
  • Mentorship

    Primary Preceptors:

  • Jason Little - Chief Executive Officer

  • Zach Chandler - Chief Strategy Officer
  • Fellows work directly with these two executive leaders throughout the 12-month fellowship and receive mentoring from Baptist's Senior Leadership Team, hospital CEOs, medical group leadership, and corporate system services.

    Outcomes

    Upon completion, fellows will have:

  • Broad and in-depth understanding of operating a comprehensive health care system

  • Technical knowledge of health care administration

  • Leadership skills needed to transition into administrative health system leadership roles
  • Legacy

    Previous Groner fellows have gone on to successful careers in health care and hospital administration at prestigious systems throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
