Dr. Dorothy Brooten Transitional Care Research Grant

The Dr. Dorothy Brooten Transitional Care Research Grant aims to enhance evidence-based transitional care in clinical settings, promoting improved patient outcomes. Funded by Sigma Foundation for Nursing, this grant supports initiatives led by registered nurses who are Sigma members and focuses on vulnerable populations. Proposals are evaluated based on their significance, implementation strategies, and expected impacts. Projects must be completed within 18 months of funding and findings presented at Sigma conferences.

Research Priorities
Sigma research priorities are as follows:
promotion of healthy communities through health promotion,disease prevention and recognition of social, economic and political determinants;implementation of evidence-based practice;targeting the needs of vulnerable populations such as the chronically ill and poor; andcapacity development for research by nurses.
The purpose of the Dr. Dorothy Brooten Transitional Care Research Grant is to advance evidence based Transitional Care in clinical settings and the dissemination of its impact.
Funds for this grant are provided by Sigma Foundation for Nursing’s Dr. Dorothy Brooten Research Permanent Fund. The grant will be evaluated and awarded based on the quality of the proposal which includes background and significance; problem statement including Transitional Care (change of site or level of care); evidence synthesis providing support for proposed intervention; goals with time frame; estimated magnitude for improvement to patient care and outcomes; implementation strategy; evaluation plan for implementation and outcomes; budget.

Eligibility

The proposed nursing research should meet the following criteria:Principal project lead must be a registered nurse (or country equivalent) with current license and have at least a master's in nursing (or country equivalent.)Principal project lead must be a member of Sigma.Proposed project can be inter-professional in design but must be nurse-led.Transitional Care project implementation site in a clinical setting.Must be ready to initiate project when funding is received.Must complete project within eighteen (18) months of funding.Submit a final report and completed abstract to the Sigma Repository to receive final grant disbursement, if owed.Present findings of research at a future Sigma conference.

Ineligibility

Funds for this grant do not cover expenses incurred prior to the funding date, nor do they cover publication costs or travel for presentations.
