Background: The Biomedical Research Institute of New Mexico renamed its Pilot Grant program the "Dr. Catherine Do Pilot Grant" in April 2022 in honor of Dr. Catherine Do, a clinician and researcher who recently passed away and devoted herself to helping Veterans and her colleagues.

Purpose

The grant program supports biomedical research benefiting veterans. It aims to:
• Offer new and experienced researchers the opportunity to gather data and prove a concept for larger, prestigious awards
• Provide equity to researchers who may not have a mentor or opportunity, serving as a career kick-start
• Support research and development to improve the lives of Veterans

Broad biomedical research areas (examples of funded projects include metabolism, infectious disease, and nephropathy)

Eligibility

• New and experienced researchers
• Researchers without mentors or existing opportunities are prioritized
