Dr. Bertee and Retta Faye Adkins Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Helps local students pursue higher education through scholarships established by Dr. Bertee Adkins many years ago

Geographic Scope: Floyd County, Kentucky - specifically Betsy Layne High School

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a Betsy Layne High School senior

  • Pursuing post-secondary education
  • Award Information:

  • Awards: $1,000 scholarships per recipient

  • In October 2023, $6,000 was awarded (6 recipients at $1,000 each)

  • In May 2025, scholarships were awarded to Betsy Layne High School students
  • Fund Background: Advised by the Floyd County Community Foundation and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. The fund represents a long-standing commitment to supporting local students.
