NOTE: Applicants should submit their application through the Honors College Portal. You are encouraged to apply early as these scholarship programs are very competitive and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an award. Applicants will not need to apply to any individual scholarship program. The Honors College application will grant consideration for each program and depending upon the criteria met, applicants will be placed into a review for one or all scholarships. Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is a preeminent scholarship established in the Fall 2008 and awarded to entering freshman who have shown excellence in academics and scholarly leadership during their high school matriculation. The prestigious Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program celebrate two phenomenal educators - the late Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy, sixth president of North Carolina A&T College and first chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University and his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Dowdy. They served the University for twenty-one years, which included the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s. Scholarship Award Those selected as Dowdy Scholars will receive a full 4-year renewable scholarship which includes tuition and related fees, room and board (standard double occupancy). Scholars may also use award funds to travel abroad during the fall and spring semester. The Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is supported through federal, state, and institutional funding to award during the Fall and Spring semesters. Enrichment Programming The co-curricular model of the Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is designed to support our scholars throughout their matriculation at North Carolina A&T State University. The program strives to create diverse opportunities that engage students in the integration of knowledge in and out of the classroom. Scholars will be exposed to opportunities of leadership development, social awareness, research with faculty, co-op/internships, study abroad experiences, and so much more. Program Participation As a Dowdy Scholar, students are expected to fully participate in the required components of the program each academic year. Upon review of scholarship renewal, the following will be taken into consideration: Required 3.50 cumulative GPA and hours earned at the end of Spring term. Annual participation in the Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program. Why Become a Dowdy Scholar? To be considered, applicants must meet all the following criteria:Open to incoming freshmen pursuing their first bachelor’s degree. Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA (weighted) Minimum scholastic score 1270 SAT or 27 ACT (test optional) Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen Must show exceptional characteristics of leadership and service Completion of the Honors College application by the priority deadline.

Ineligibility

Scholarship funding is not applicable to summer school expenses.
