Funder: Dogs Trust Worldwide
Amount: Up to £10,000
Last Updated: July 09, 2025

Summary

Dogs Trust Worldwide offers small grants to registered, non-profit organizations aimed at improving dog welfare across the globe, excluding the UK, USA, and Republic of Ireland. The focus for 2022 is on rehoming initiatives, providing funding for infrastructure improvements, equipment, and enrichment opportunities for dogs in shelters. Grants can be up to £10,000, with applicants encouraged to develop their own policies on euthanasia. The program seeks to enhance local adoption efforts and does not support international rehoming.

Overview

NOTE: We have “pawsed” our Dogs Trust USA open Grants round for the moment. However, we may actively reach out to organizations directly to engage with them for joint projects. Small Grants Dogs Trust Worldwide understands the scale of suffering faced by dogs all around the world and, alongside our major programmes, we also run a small grants programme to help registered, not for profit organisations improve the welfare of more dogs within their communities. We will support dog welfare projects anywhere in the world, except for the UK, USA and the Republic of Ireland. In 2022 our focus for our small grants programme is on rehoming. Projects we may fund include those aiming to make material improvements to existing rehoming centre or shelter infrastructure, those requiring equipment to improve the running of shelters or rehoming centres, or those directly aimed at improving the welfare of the dogs in the shelter through providing enrichment opportunities. Projects that aim to increase and improve local adoptions, including through fostering programmes will also be considered. The maximum grant that can be awarded through this small grants programme is £10,000. We may wish to suggest adaptations or improvements to projects before making the grant. Due to the high volume of applications expected and the competitive nature of the process we are sadly not able to provide feedback and advice to unsuccessful applicants.

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. Dogs Trust Worldwide provides small grants to registered, not for profit organisations who wish to improve dog welfare. The organisation will need to show evidence of its legal registration and evidence that they have an organisational bank account. We will accept applications to support dog welfare projects anywhere in the world, except for the UK, USA and the Republic of Ireland.Dogs Trust supports organisations who have developed their own clear policy and guidance around euthanasia (ICAM guidance may help you if you do not already have).Since we are trying to support as many organisations as possible, we are unable to provide continuation funding; however, organisations are welcome to apply again next year for a different project.

Ineligibility

We are not able to contribute towards construction costs of a new rehoming centre/shelter or the purchase of land. We will also not fund consumables with this small grants programme.Dogs Trust Worldwide does not fund international rehoming, so we will not fund improvements to overseas adoption programmes or fostering programmes which could result in a dog being rehomed overseas. Whilst we understand the instinctive desire to rehome dogs internationally, we have concerns for the impact it might have on dog welfare in general. Not only is there the risk of disease being moved from one country to another, but, if a dog is used to free roaming, it may be unable to cope with a domestic home environment. In addition, rehoming dogs outside the country of origin will not solve the wider dog population and welfare issues there. To be effective it is better to focus on activities within the country itself, which can includes improving local adoption rates. Dogs Trust Worldwide will not fund organisations who euthanase healthy dogs (Healthy as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal health (WOAH, formerly OIE) as a ‘state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. We base the welfare of animals around the five welfare needs and prioritise quality of life above all.
