Dennis Watson Spirit of TEAM Memorial Grant

Overview: The Dennis Watson Spirit of TEAM Memorial Fund was developed to honor the legacy of long-time board member Dennis Watson, a passionate believer in the power of team building. The fund supports youth leaders, teachers, and those engaged in developing programs or projects for middle school and/or high school students.

Geographic Scope: Olympic Peninsula region (Washington State)

  • Youth leaders, teachers, and program developers

  • Programs or projects serving middle school and/or high school students

  • Programs must promote team-building, encourage inclusion, or foster good communication

  • Applicants may apply once per year
  • Background: Dennis Watson was a passionate believer in the power of team building and devoted nearly 18 years to the YMCA as a board member, volunteer, and financial supporter. He led the charge for the YMCA Middle School Program TEAM, which was devoted to encouraging 8th graders to improve communication and teambuilding skills, increase leadership, and grow as more compassionate individuals.

    Historical Award Information:

  • 2020-2021: Grants ranged from $800-$1,500 to Stevens Middle School Robotics Club, Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association, Stevens Middle School science classes, and Northwest Maritime Center

  • 2019-2020: Grants ranged from $1,200-$1,500 to Port Angeles School District AmeriCorps Program, Port Townsend Maritime Center, and Jefferson County 4-H

  • 2018-2019: Grants ranged from $1,000-$1,500 to Stevens Middle School, Chimacum Middle School, Jefferson County 4-H, and Jefferson County YMCA
