Overview

The Corning Museum of Glass The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) was established in 1951 by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) as a gift to the nation commemorating the company’s 100th anniversary. CMoG is an independent not-for-profit museum dedicated to exploring a single material: glass. Welcoming more than 300,000 annual visitors from around the world, the Museum's campus is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of glass, the world’s foremost library on glass, and one of the premier glassworking schools in the world. CMoG was named by the New York Times among the U.S. museums to see for 2025, and Newsweek readers voted CMoG one of the Top 3 Best Art Museums in America. David Whitehouse Research Residency for Scholars The David Whitehouse Research Residency for Scholars is open to scholars whose research in glass and glass-related topics will benefit from onsite, in-person engagement with the Museum’s resources, particularly the extensive holdings of the Rakow Research Library. The residency is named for the former executive director of the Corning Museum of Glass, David Whitehouse—a highly regarded scholar who worked to build the resources of the Rakow Library and was a major supporter of scholars researching glass. This residency creates opportunities to advance glass knowledge or make progress on a developing project. Although the residency typically supports scholarly research projects, applicants developing or working on creative projects are welcome to submit materials for consideration. We encourage applicants to explore Rakow Library resources or contact Library staff with collections-related questions when developing proposals. Residencies may be one, two, or three weeks in duration and can be scheduled throughout the year. Residencies include transportation to and from Corning, as well as room and board. Residents will have access to the Rakow Research Library, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Museum’s and Library’s staff experts. The residency manager will facilitate meetings with Museum experts and engagement with other resources.
