Background

The DAISY Foundation created the award in 1999 to honor Patrick Barnes, who received incredible kindness and skill from his nurses during a hospital stay for an autoimmune disease. His family started the DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses who make a difference.

The DAISY Award ensures recognition and celebration of nursing impact. By honoring great nurses, Artesia General Hospital fosters a culture of appreciation that:

Nomination Process

1. Submit a Nomination:
- Patients, families, or staff members fill out a nomination form
- Provide the nurse's name and department
- Include a detailed explanation of their compassionate care

2. Review and Selection:
- A DAISY committee panel reviews all nominations
- Selects one nurse who best represents the DAISY mission
- Committee will contact the nominee if selected

3. Honor the Nurse:
- Artesia General Hospital hosts a special ceremony to celebrate the winner
- Winner receives certificate, DAISY Award pin, and hand-carved sculpture
