Overview

Dairy Funding Accelerator Program (DFA)

Purpose: Specialized Business Technical Assistance (BTA) training program for small-herd dairy farmers to expand operations through access to capital

Eligible Applicants:

  • Small-herd dairy farmers (100 or fewer animals)

  • Herd types: cows, goats, or sheep (special consideration given to small ruminants)

  • Located in: New York, western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, southern Vermont, eastern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania

  • Must be established business looking to expand production

  • Farm and majority of labor force must be in designated states

  • Must commit to time and resources required of training program

  • Must be able to commit to mentoring future DFA participants

    • Program Details:

  • Duration: 20 months intensive training curriculum

  • Format: Virtual and in-person sessions, group and personalized BTA training

  • Participant Limit: Five dairy farmers accepted per cohort

  • Cost: No fee for program

  • Financial planning

  • Business coaching

  • Workforce management

  • Marketing

  • Management structures

  • Succession planning

  • Prepare participants to apply for grants provided by Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC)
