Overview
Purpose: Specialized Business Technical Assistance (BTA) training program for small-herd dairy farmers to expand operations through access to capital
Eligible Applicants:
- Small-herd dairy farmers (100 or fewer animals)
- Herd types: cows, goats, or sheep (special consideration given to small ruminants)
- Located in: New York, western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, southern Vermont, eastern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania
- Must be established business looking to expand production
- Farm and majority of labor force must be in designated states
- Must commit to time and resources required of training program
- Must be able to commit to mentoring future DFA participants
Program Details:
- Duration: 20 months intensive training curriculum
- Format: Virtual and in-person sessions, group and personalized BTA training
- Participant Limit: Five dairy farmers accepted per cohort
- Cost: No fee for program
