Community Economic Development (CED) Fund

Overview:
The CED grant program supports certified community development corporations (CDCs) and community development financial institutions (CDFIs) sponsored projects in South Carolina. The program enhances economic opportunities of underserved and rural communities through various development activities.

Geographic Scope: South Carolina

Eligible Applicants:

  • State certified community development corporations (CDCs)

    Qualifying projects and activities include:

    Projects designed to enhance economic opportunities and wealth creation in economically challenged communities, enabling low-to-moderate income persons to become:

  • 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 state budget: $4 million total appropriated

  • 2021: $975,000 granted to 11 certified CDCs/CDFIs

  • 2023 (May): $2.7 million awarded to 14 state certified CDCs/CDFIs

  • Award range: $50,000 to $300,000 per grant

    All funds from the most recent appropriation (end of 2023) have been granted out. SCACED is advocating for a $3 million appropriation in the current state budget to replenish the CED Fund.
