Our Story Strengthening Community Through Philanthropy Who We Are Community Foundation of North Louisiana brings people and resources together to solve problems and enhance our community. Our mission is to promote philanthropy and improve the quality of life in the North Louisiana community by serving as a permanent and growing resource of expertise and funds. Our seven-member volunteer Board of Directors is made up of community members responsible for overseeing the funds, management and policies of the Community Foundation. Our nine-member CFNLA staff carry out the mission of the Foundation every day. Established in 1961, the Foundation oversees more than $200 million in assets for the benefit of North Louisiana. The funds managed by the Foundation are invested for the community’s benefit and then are returned to the community in the form of grants to a wide variety of charitable endeavors. Since inception, the Community Foundation has granted over $150 million in grants to nonprofit organizations. Scholarship Opportunities In addition to philanthropic grantmaking, Community Foundation of North Louisiana also offers a number of student scholarships. The following CFNLA scholarships have been made possible by generous donors. Each scholarship has different requirements. Colonel Steven L. dePyssler Mission Support Scholarship Fund This scholarship fund was created in honor of Colonel Steven L. dePyssler and provides scholarships for students who are dependents of active duty men or women at Barksdale Air Force Base. Colonel dePyssler retired from the United States Air Force in 1979 after 38 years of active duty, including serving in World War II, the Korean War, the French-Indo China War, and Vietnam.
