Overview

CNS Meeting Travel Award

Purpose: Exchange sponsorship between SfN and the Chinese Neuroscience Society (CNS) for PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows to attend the CNS annual meeting.

Award Details:

  • Covers: Registration fees for SfN members from the United States, Canada, and Mexico

  • Event: CNS's 19th Annual Meeting, September 10–13, 2026 in Fuzhou, China

  • Stipend: $2,500 travel stipend sent after submission of in-person proof of attendance

  • Registration Refund: Upon notification of winning, SfN travel recipients will be refunded the CNS meeting registration fees
  • Geographic Scope: United States, Canada, and Mexico

    Selection Criteria:

  • Scientific merit of abstract submitted to CNS

  • Strength of application materials

  • Preference given to those without extensive prior experience living or working in China
  • Restrictions:

  • Recipients may not receive additional travel awards from CNS, IBRO, FENS, JNS to attend this event

  • Recipient must not have received another SfN travel award in the same calendar year

  • CNS Abstract submission deadline: May 15, 2026

  • SfN application closes: May 22, 2026, 5:00 PM EDT

    How to Apply

    Before Applying with SfN:
    1. Submit an abstract for the CNS Annual Meeting by the end of their submission period (Friday, May 15)
    2. Register for the CNS Annual Meeting

    Application Materials (submit by May 22, 2026):
    1. One-page curriculum vitae (CV) including:
    - Country of residency
    - Education (including date of achieving PhD candidacy or start of postdoctoral work)
    - Honors and awards
    - Publications
    2. One letter of recommendation from an academic adviser
    3. Essay on career goals, planned research, and the value of attending the CNS Annual Meeting (up to 500 words)
    4. Copy of the proposed abstract that has been submitted to the CNS Annual Meeting

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Living and working in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time of travel

  • PhD candidate or postdoctoral scholar

  • SfN member in good standing

  • First author on an abstract to be presented at the CNS Annual Meeting

  • Have not received another SfN travel award in the same calendar year
  • Selection Timeline:

  • Submissions open: April 15, 2026
