Overview

Maine Governor's Energy Office The Maine Governor's Energy Office (GEO), established within the Executive Department and directly responsible to the Governor, is the designated state energy office tasked with a wide range of activities relating to state energy policies, planning, and development. As the lead energy office for the state, GEO is responsible for several activities such as providing policy leadership and technical assistance, developing energy programs, monitoring energy markets, and reporting on heating fuel and energy prices. GEO works in partnership with various state agencies, federal and local officials, industry, nonprofit interests, and academia on energy issues. Clean Energy Partnership: Residential Energy Efficiency Workforce Training Grants The Governor’s Energy Office (Department/GEO) is seeking applications for programs that advance workforce development and training in the residential energy efficiency sector. The Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) is an initiative within the Governor’s Energy Office focused on preparing more Maine people for jobs in the growing clean energy and energy efficiency fields, providing avenues for business support, and advancing innovation in the clean energy sector. In 2024, GEO was approved for a $1.3 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy to administer a workforce development program to grow Maine's energy efficiency workforce. A Request for Applications (RFA) is now open for programs that advance workforce development and training in the residential energy efficiency sector. The RFA seeks to: Increase the number of new energy efficiency workers in Maine,Provide upskilling opportunities for incumbent energy efficiency workers,Prepare contractors for businesses growth and/or delivery of home energy efficiency and electrification rebates and programs, andIncrease the number and availability of energy efficiency workers and contractors statewide.
