CJI Judicial Education Scholarships (Colorado Judicial Institute)

CJI funds continuing education for Colorado's judges and court staff, supported in part by The Larry DeMuth Endowment for Judicial Education; CJI has awarded more than $500,000 in such funding over the years. ALL funding requests must come from the Colorado Judicial Branch — funds must be used for education or training by or for members of the judiciary, employees of the State Court Administrator's Office, or others employed by the Colorado Judicial Department. Eligible costs are conference/seminar registration and class fees, hardware, software, textbooks, CDs/DVDs of conference materials, and speaker fees. NOT eligible without SCAO Education Director approval — travel, lodging, food, drink, meeting rooms, entertainment, parking, requests requiring travel outside the continental US, and more than one person from the same judicial district attending the same program. An individual may receive funds only once in any 12-month period.

Stated: scholarship requests are accepted year-round but are reviewed by the Judicial Education Fund Committee in the first full two weeks of each quarter — the 2026 application windows are January 4-17, April 5-18, July 5-18 and October 4-17 (next window closing October 17, 2026). Apply at least six weeks before the class or conference; approval takes six weeks. All applications must include a letter of support from the Judicial Educator at the Office of the State Court Administrator, or the applicant's Chief Judge or Judicial District Administrator. The application asks for the training title and description, dates, host organization, tuition and fee amounts requested, and all other funding sources (district, NJC, SJI).
