CHEST Equitable Community Health Impact Grant
Grant amount: $150,000 over three years
This grant is intended to provide support for the crucial relationship between health care institutions and community partners working together to advance equitable health outcomes for communities most impacted by lung health disparities.
Proposal focus
Applications must advance health equity with a focus on community-driven impact and solutions. Projects must go beyond a documentation of disparities and demonstrate collaboratively designed, achievable, systems-based impact on the lung health of a community or communities. This grant is intended to provide support for the crucial relationship between health care institutions and community partners working together to advance equitable health outcomes for communities most impacted by lung health disparities.

* Qualifications and Eligibility
* CHEST membership is required at the time of application.
* A multiprofessional core team of two to three members, including at least one Community Partner, is required.
* A Principal Investigator (PI) must be identified.
* The PI will apply as an individual and will receive recognition, if awarded.
* The PI is also expected to complete all award reporting and follow-up.
* PIs may assemble a team, either from across affiliations or all from within a single institution, at their discretion.
* Affiliations with either nonprofits or for-profit organizations (except tobacco companies) or private practices are all acceptable.
* Institutional review board approval must be sought/received for all projects to ensure protection of subjects.
* Applicants can propose a new project or apply for support for an existing project.
* Applicants must be currently (>6 months) providing a voluntary service to a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization (NGO).
* The organization’s or service project’s primary intent must be to provide community service and not to conduct research.
* This organization must be either a documented US 501(c)3 or an official NGO.
* If your program is not affiliated with a 501(c)3 or NGO, you might contact your hospital or another nonprofit organization (eg, the local American Lung Association) that could potentially assist by providing you a place to receive and distribute the funding.
* Funding Guidelines
* Grant funds can be used to cover 20% of protected time for the PI each year.
* Funding will only cover direct costs.
* Programmatic travel will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.

* Grant funding is paid to the nonprofit or NGO in which the applicant donates time and services.
* Academic institutions and universities typically have foundations that are capable of receiving funds on behalf of the applicant.
* Open to US- and international-based organizations.

Ineligibility
* Qualifications and Eligibility
* The following individuals are not eligible to apply for CHEST-supported grants:
* Active CHEST grantees, including those with active no cost extension (NCE) requests
* Members of the CHEST Board of Regents or Board of Advisors, as well as their family members
* Bench level surveys that will establish future projects are considered research and will not be considered.
* Funding Guidelines
* Grant funds cannot be used to cover operating costs for the community organization or institution.
* Indirect costs will not be covered.
* PI salaries will not be supported.
