Overview

Chateaubriand Fellowship Program The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States. It supports outstanding PhD students from U.S institutions who wish to conduct part of their doctoral research in France for a period ranging from 4 to 9 months. Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition, with expert evaluation in France and in the United States. The Fellowship is divided into two subprograms: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Health and Humanities & Social Sciences. Humanities and Social Sciences The Chateaubriand Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) is offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. The HSS program targets outstanding PhD students enrolled in U.S. institutions who seek to engage in research in France in any discipline of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The HSS Chateaubriand program is supported by Campus France which provides assistance to fellows on site. The fellows will be able to engage in dissertation research and interact with a French mentor and scholars. We offer two types of fellowships: Fall Fellowship, 4 monthsSpring Fellowship, 4 months Selection Criteria The final selection committee ranks applications based on the following criteria: scientific quality of the project; overall quality of the application; contribution to French/U.S. research dialogue; geographic distribution of candidates; diversity of disciplines and research topics. Benefits Monthly allowance (currently 1704 euros/month, it cannot be combined with other French State-funded fellowships like Fulbright during the duration of your stay in France)Round-trip airfare between the U.S. and France onlyHealth insurance for the duration of the fellowship
