Charles Z. Flack Jr. Community Leadership Award
Overview: The Robert and Janice McNair Educational Foundation established the Charles Z. Flack Jr. Community Leadership Award in 2010 in memory of Mr. Charles (Chuck) Z. Flack Jr., a businessman, community leader, and founding member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees who served for 21 years. This scholarship is awarded annually to one ROPE Award recipient from each high school who has demonstrated leadership, community service, organizational skills, and vision in their school and community.
Geographic Scope: Rutherford County Schools, North Carolina (one recipient from each of the three high schools: Chase, East Rutherford, and R-S Central)
Award Amount: Up to $8,000 over four years of postsecondary education
About Charles Z. Flack Jr.: Mr. Flack was a businessman and community leader who dedicated his life to serving others and creating opportunities for individuals to succeed. He believed the primary path to a productive life was through education. He served on the University of North Carolina Board of Governors for 16 years and as province commander of his Kappa Alpha Order.
Eligibility Requirements:
Selection Process: Recipients are selected by the Teacher Advisory Council from each high school based on demonstrated leadership, service, organizational skills, and vision.
