The Charles R. O'Melia AEESP Distinguished Educator Award recognizes exceptional contributions to environmental engineering education. Awarded annually, it honors professors with outstanding teaching records, significant research achievements, and impactful mentoring. This award is given annually to recognize the significant contributions of Professor O'Melia to environmental engineering education and will be awarded to an environmental engineering or science professor who has a record of excellent teaching in the classroom and through graduate student advising; significant research achievements that have contributed to environmental engineering knowledge; and an outstanding record of influence through mentoring of former students and colleagues. The recipient of this award will receive a plaque, a cash prize of $1500, and a $750 travel allotment to attend the awards ceremony.

Eligibility

An environmental engineering or science professor who has a record of excellent teaching in the classroom and through graduate student advisingRequirements for nominators and letter writers:One nomination per cycle per award for a given category may be submitted by a single nominator.There is no limit on the number of nomination packages to which an individual letter writer may contribute.If a single individual is serving as a nominator or letter writer for more than one nominee during a single cycle, they will be contacted to provide a ranking of their contributions before the committee's review.Complete nomination package includes:A brief (one-page max.) cover letter from the nominator. The letter should contain a short citation, which summarizes the essence of the individual's contribution. The citation is limited to 150 characters including punctuation and spacing,Brief curriculum vitae (4-page maximum) for the nominee,No more than 10 pages of documentation demonstrating excellent classroom teaching and graduate student advising, significant research achievements, and outstanding record of influence through mentoring of students and colleagues,One (minimum) to three (maximum) letters of recommendation from current or past students; andOne (minimum) to three (maximum) letters of recommendation from faculty, administrator, or industry peers.Full current contact information of the nominee.
*For items 4 and 5, each letter should be limited to no more than two pages with a minimum of 11-point font size of Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial.
