CES Dissertation Fellowship

The Center for Engaged Scholarship (CES) awards Dissertation Fellowships to Ph.D. students in the social sciences and humanities doing 'engaged scholarship' — rigorous research addressing pressing social problems and injustices. Each fellow receives a $40,000 stipend paid over a nine-month fellowship period (Sept–). Fields include African American/Africana Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Environmental Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, Urban Studies and more. Eligible applicants are Ph.D. students enrolled in a U.S.-based program who have completed all requirements except writing/defending the dissertation and are on track to finish research by June of the current year. The application portal is open annually September 1 – December 1.

Apply through the CES online application portal (open Sep 1 – Dec 1); complete the application, request letters of recommendation, and submit supporting materials. Two rounds of review followed by a final selection committee. Next deadline December 1 (annual). Questions: info@cescholar.org.
