CCA Scholarships

Funder: Critics Choice Association (formerly the Broadcast Film Critics Association)

Purpose: To promote the art and practice of broadcast film criticism by providing financial assistance and mentorship to college students interested in becoming film critics.

Background: Founded and funded in 2004 to support students in writing and recording reviews for college and university broadcast stations.

  • Must demonstrate promise and enthusiasm for broadcast film criticism
  • Associated with a college TV or radio station

    Award Structure

  • Award Amount: $1,500 per scholarship
  • Flexibility: Details are flexible and determined by individual CCA member arrangements:
  • - Some scholarships support radio, some TV - Some stations share funds with student, others award entire amount to student - CCA member mentorship can be remote or in-person - Members may mentor one or multiple students

  • Student and college station must be selected
  • Formal letter of agreement required, signed by: CCA member sponsor, student recipient, and college faculty/producer
  • CCA sends check directly to college upon agreement

How to Apply

1. Select Institution: Choose a college or university (typically alma mater or nearby institution)

2. Find Sponsor: Locate a faculty member or college station producer to serve as scholarship point-person

3. Select Student: Work with sponsor to identify a promising student interested in broadcast film criticism

4. Arrange Details: Coordinate with sponsor and student on:
- Division of $1,500 scholarship funds
- Whether working with radio or TV station
- Mentorship arrangement (remote or in-person)
- Number of students to mentor

5. Gather Required Information:
- Name of college or university
- Student recipient name
- Proposed division of $1,500
- Name of college TV or radio station
- Name of producer/director overseeing broadcasts
- Entity to issue check to
- Mailing address for check

6. Submit Agreement: Provide all information to CCA for formal letter of agreement

7. Execute Agreement: Obtain signatures from:
- CCA member sponsor
- Student recipient
- College faculty/producer

8. Receive Funding: CCA sends $1,500 check to college upon signed agreement
