CAWV Scholarship

Overview: The CAWV Scholarship is available to West Virginia resident sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled in civil engineering or a construction-related four-year degree program in a West Virginia college or university.

    Eligibility

  • Geographic Scope: West Virginia residents
  • Academic Level: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors
  • Program Requirements: Civil engineering or construction-related four-year degree program
  • Eligible Schools:
  • - West Virginia University - West Virginia University Institute of Technology - Fairmont State University - Bluefield State University - Marshall University - West Virginia State University
  • Out-of-State Option: West Virginia residents attending out-of-state schools offering a construction-related curriculum not available in West Virginia are also eligible

  • Additional Awards: Varying amounts awarded to other selected applicants

    Evaluation Criteria

    Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
  • Academic performance
  • Extra-curricular activities
  • Employment experience
  • Financial need
  • Demonstrated interest in a construction industry career
  • Personal interview with the CAWV Scholarship Board (finalists selected in March)

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Availability: Applications are available as of January 1st each year

2. How to Obtain Application:
- From your school's engineering department
- From the CAWV website
- By contacting Pat McDonald at pmcdonald@cawv.org

3. Required Materials:
- Completed application form
- Official transcript
- Letter of recommendation from a faculty member
- Personal cover letter that includes:
- Construction experience
- Qualifications
- Extra-curricular activities
- Career goals

4. Submission: All materials must be received by the deadline indicated on the application

5. Selection Timeline: Finalists are selected in March and will be scheduled for a personal interview with the CAWV Scholarship Board at CAWV headquarters in Charleston
