Overview

Carolyn Fund

Overview: Honors the memory of Carolyn Curley and encourages the next generation of young philanthropists to give back to their communities. The fund provides small grants or matching funds to help children and young adults raise funds to support a person or organization they believe could use a helping hand.

Geographic Scope: National (multiple chapters including Alexandria Bay NY, Annapolis MD, Binghamton NY, Canton OH, Cincinnati OH, Cleveland OH, Hammond NY, Norfolk/Virginia Beach VA, Washington DC)

Eligibility:

  • Age: Fundraising program must be spearheaded by or involve young people, ages 30 or younger

  • Recipient Requirements: Must meet Betterment's three grant-making criteria:

  • - The gift/donation makes an immediate impact on the recipient's life (cannot support large funds or research)
    - The recipient exemplifies a philanthropic spirit so that the gift keeps on giving through their generous actions (ripple effect)
    - The recipient is approved by board and vetted by someone in the network
  • Application: Must be filled out and submitted by the young philanthropist with necessary contact information. If project lead is under 18, include name and contact email of adult supervisor.
  • Focus Areas:

  • Lemonade stands/bake sales (matching up to $250)

  • High School Youth Groups/Clubs (seed money or matching funds up to $1,000)

  • Golf outings, cocktail gatherings (21+), and other events (planning assistance, seed money, or matching funds up to $250)
  • Documentation: Fundraising efforts should be captured in photos and shared with Betterment for promotion.

    - How do you know the recipient and what steps were taken to vet the recipient? (required)
    - How do you plan to raise the funds? (required - describe plans such as lemonade stand, bake sale, etc.)

    4. Funding Needs:
    - Do you need start up funds to help you raise money for the potential recipient? (Yes/No)
    - If yes, provide details of what is needed and associated amount
