Career Online High School Grants

The Career Online High School Grants enable California libraries to offer online high school diploma programs and career certificates to adults 19 and older who lack a high school diploma. This no-cost program provides scholarships to eligible participants, addressing the educational and career needs of approximately 17% of California's adult population. Libraries receive resources including individualized websites, marketing support, and training, facilitating community engagement and educational advancement.

Purpose
The Career Online High School (COHS) program enables public libraries to provide an online high school diploma program and career certificate to California adults who are not high school graduates. COHS is provided at no cost to adults who are awarded scholarships by local libraries. The program supports libraries in serving the career, educational, and personal needs of approximately 17% of California adults without a high school diploma.
Description
The funding opportunity offers public libraries the chance to offer Career Online High School, an online diploma program for adults age 19 and up. Approximately 17% of California's adults do not have a high school diploma. Typical award amounts range from three to over a hundred no-cost scholarships.
For libraries joining the program for the first time and currently participating programs, scholarships will be provided by the State Library on an as-needed basis. A local match is no longer required for libraries to participate in the Career Online High School program.
Career Online High School is an educational service offered by Smart Horizons Career Online Education that offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and credentialed career certificate at the same time. In this program offered by the California State Library, libraries receive support to offer free COHS scholarships in their communities.

Eligibility

California public library jurisdictions are the only eligible applicants. A branch library should apply to participate through its jurisdiction, not as a specific location within the jurisdiction.
