About CAPCA Pest Control Advisers (PCAs) are licensed professional production consultants who serve California agriculture and horticulture producers. PCAs specialize in pest management, but they are also an important resource to producers in a wide range of production concerns related to plant health. A PCA is licensed by the State of California to engage in the following activities: Provide pest management recommendations, which must be in writing.Hold self as an authority on any agricultural use.Solicit sales of products or services for agricultural use. PCA specialties are diverse and may help maintain highway vegetation; solve weed congestion in public waterways; assist in pest-free greenhouses, golf courses, turf and landscape; or ensure the growth of healthy, abundant food, fiber and ornamentals from over 9.9 million acres of California farm and public lands. 2025 Scholarship One Stanley W. Strew scholarship opportunity is available for students interested in careers in the pest management industry. This scholarship is sponsored by the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA) and administered by the Stanley W. Strew Educational Fund, Inc. The CAPCA Scholarship will provide $3,000 to a selected college student actively engaged in a PCA career pathway. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the SWS Board of Directors.

Eligibility

Applications are available for students who are currently attending college in an agricultural/horticultural related field or who are entering or returning to college in an agricultural/horticultural related field in the fall of application year.Students attending junior or community college ARE eligible.Students who hold a DPR license (QAC, QAL, PCA etc.) ARE eligible.Students who meet the eligibility requirements are invited to apply annually (even if they have received the scholarship before).

Ineligibility

Master’s degree/ doctorate students are NOT eligible.
