Cancer Research and Support Grants

Overview:
The Foundation established the Cancer Network to address the prevalence and variety of cancer affecting English Springer Spaniels. The program has five initiatives:

Initiative 1: Fund Relevant, Timely Research Projects

The Foundation proactively provides high-impact grant support for research projects with positive and practical impact on cancers found in English Springer Spaniels.

    Initiative 2: Information Resources for Owners and Breeders

    Gather and compile helpful cancer information (general and breed-specific) that is easily located and understood by non-scientists. Includes:
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  • Downloadable resources on Foundation website
  • Facebook and Twitter bulletins and updates

Initiative 3: Research Information for Veterinarians

Provide links to most current scientific information and research in collaboration with research institutions and service organizations. Owners can direct veterinarians to relevant scientific information through Foundation website.

Initiative 4: International Support Network

Establish means for owners and breeders to support and inform one another. Connects owners of cancer-affected Springers with others for helpful, empathetic, and informative support.

Initiative 5: Small Individual Grants for Advanced/Experimental Treatments

Grant Type: One-time grants for individuals to help pay for advanced or experimental cancer therapies Amount: Up to $1,000 per grant Process: Streamlined application process designed to be simple and quick Review: Small review committee processes requests in order received, responding as quickly as possible Submission: Veterinarians provide summary of treatment(s) and result(s) to Foundation's Vice President of Science and Research

Fundraising Goal: $40,000 for initial program establishment (ongoing effort)

    Cancer Support Grant Application Process

    For Individual Treatment Assistance Grants (Up to $1,000):

    Submission Process:
    1. Veterinarian provides summary of proposed treatment(s)
    2. Submit to Foundation's Vice President of Science and Research
    3. Include details on:
    - Type of treatment(s)
    - Expected outcomes/results
    - Cost of treatment(s)
    - Applicant information

    Review Process:

  • Small review committee

  • Requests processed in order received

  • Rapid response intended
  • For Cancer Research Grants:
    Follow the guidelines for Scientific Research Grants (see separate entry for detailed application procedures)
