Brower Youth Awards for Environmental Leadership Grant

The Brower Youth Awards for Environmental Leadership honors young leaders aged 13 to 22 in North America who excel in environmental initiatives. Awardees receive a $3,000 cash prize, training, and networking opportunities to enhance their impact. This prestigious program fosters youth leadership and amplifies diverse voices within the environmental movement, encouraging innovative solutions to pressing ecological challenges. Over the past 25 years, the awards have celebrated over 100 emerging leaders dedicated to making a difference in their communities.

For 25 years, the Brower Youth Awards for Environmental Leadership has recognized over 100 outstanding, bold, and emerging youth leaders, representing accomplishments across the full spectrum of the environmental movement, from protecting our seas, cultivating food sovereignty and security, to improving the air quality in frontline communities, and mobilizing youth around the climate emergency. Every year, six young people based in North America, including US territories, are each awarded a cash prize of $3,000 celebrating their individual and collective efforts. The award and cash prize provide a platform to showcase and honor the accomplishments of young rising leaders.
The New Leaders Initiative provides an approximately week-long trip of robust programming and training for all awardees that includes peer networking, career coaching, leadership and media training, and exercises to build skills and capacity to effectively make lasting change. The Awards program holds a deep commitment to amplifying the stories of youth from socio-economic and culturally diverse backgrounds so that they can continue to be successful innovators and activists.
What We Look For
Applicants are assessed on the following criteria:
Outstanding Youth Leadership: You played the major leadership role in creating, organizing and implementing your project or campaign(s).Issue & Approach: Your project is applying fresh solutions and approaches to relevant environmental challenges.Project Impact, Scalability, & Replicability: Is the project’s impact significant? Can your work be used as a model for other communities or campuses?Charisma, Personal Commitment, & Trajectory: What draws you to this work? What would winning a Brower Youth Award mean to you?
Funding
Recipients receive a $3,000 cash prize, a short film co-produced about their work, a trip to participate in leadership development activities, flight, meals, and lodging accommodations.
Post event, Brower Youth Award winners join a wide network of over a hundred youth leaders across the world making a difference globally.

Eligibility

Youth environmental change leaders ages 13 to 22 (as of the application deadline) living in North America (including Mexico, Canada, and U.S. territories) are encouraged to apply.
