Bolton-Cutter Award Grant

The Bolton-Cutter Award, presented by the Western History Association, honors the best journal article on the history of the Borderlands, encompassing a wide range of topics from the Floridas to the Californias. This prestigious $500 award acknowledges works that showcase exceptional scholarship and literary style, addressing significant historical developments and cultural narratives from the sixteenth century to the present. Nominations are open to WHA members and must include articles published in the previous calendar year.

Western History Association
The Western History Association strives to be a congenial home for the study and teaching of all aspects of North American Wests, frontiers, homelands, and borderlands.
Enable collaborations among peoples, institutions, and organizations devoted to the study of western history. Conduct an annual conference at which western history teachers, scholars, and professionals share their research and exchange ideas that facilitate further study of the North American West. Publish an award-winning journal that employs rigorous peer reviews to identify, improve, and distribute original western history scholarship.Promote public education on western history through active involvement with teachers, museums, non profit organizations, libraries, and other venues.
The $500 award recognizes the best journal article on any phase of the history of the Borderlands.

Eligibility

Any WHA member, publisher, or author of an essay/article may nominate work that was published in previous calendar year.
