  • Program Description:
    The scholarship is designed to acknowledge the experiences of boarding school survivors and to allow families to come together and heal. In addition to financial support, the American Indian College Fund provides students with culturally relevant and holistic support to facilitate persistence in education, academic achievement, personal and professional development, and career planning.

    Background:
    Launched in partnership with the American Indian College Fund. In 2021-22, twenty scholarships of $3,000 each were awarded through a fundraising campaign that raised over $51,000. A matching donor campaign in September 2021 raised up to $30,000 in additional funds.

    2. Submit a 500-word personal essay about:
    - Your relationship with a boarding school survivor in your family
    - The assimilation model of boarding schools
    - The impact of boarding school trauma on your life and relationships

    Essay Purpose: The essay process is designed to prompt sharing and healing, while acknowledging the impact of this trauma on their lives and relationships.

    Note: Students do not need to demonstrate financial need for this scholarship.
