NOTE: Applications are considered four times a year, the deadlines for which are: 2 March for conferences/events after 1 April 1 June for conferences/events after 1 July 1 September for conferences/events after 1 October 2 November for conferences/events after 1 December Our Student Bursaries help Undergraduate and Postgraduate members attend a range of Biochemical Society Scientific Meetings, Training Events, and Online Courses. Bursary funding available The maximum bursary available for a Scientific Meeting is £200 if the meeting is taking place within your country of residence and £300 if you have to travel outside of your country of residence to attend the meeting. The maximum bursary available for a Training Event or Course is £100 within your country of residence or £150 if travelling outside of your country of residence. For a Society online course virtual meeting or to access on-demand content the cost of the registration fee will be covered. If awarded, bursaries will be paid after the event has taken place, and attendance has been confirmed.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:Applicants need to have been a member for at least 12 months immediately prior to the deadline on the closing date of the round applied to. Members that have joined as multiyear members are eligible to apply for a General Travel Grant after six months of membership has elapsed. If you are not a member, join today.  Applicants cannot receive funding from the same scheme in consecutive years. Applicants must not exceed a maximum of £2,000 in funding in a 3-year period across the Biochemical Society grants portfolio. Applicants need to provide an abstract that has been submitted to the conference to demonstrate active participation. Grants must be used to cover costs associated with the applicant's attendance only, and cannot be used to support accompanying individuals. Joint applications are not permitted. Applications are not accepted for the FEBS Congress or Young Scientists' Forum through this scheme. Please visit our International Sponsored Places to check your eligibility for funding. If you are not currently a member, you must join Society before the closing date for poster abstract submission for the particular event you wish to attend to be eligible.

Ineligibility

Student Bursaries are not available for Young Life Scientists' Symposia and cannot be used for Harden Conferences.Separate Harden Bursaries are available for Harden Conferences.
