BCBSSCF Health Priority Grants

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation's Health Priority Grants support initiatives that enhance health access and outcomes for South Carolinians, especially the economically disadvantaged. Eligible applicants include nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status and government agencies. The Foundation prioritizes projects addressing oral health and mental health, among other systemic health issues, to create sustainable, data-driven solutions.

Our Work
The Foundation issues grants to support projects that aim to promote the health of South Carolinians and to increase access to health care for the economically disadvantaged.
We look to partner with grantees to both increase effectiveness towards better health outcomes and contribute to organizational and programmatic sustainability.We seek to support efforts that represent community and statewide priorities that are locally determined, culturally relevant and data-informed solutions.We support efforts that generate data, connect learning to action, and use data for continuous improvement.We recognize that improving health is complex and is influenced as much by one's environment as it is by the individual therefore we look to have an array of projects that are designed to provide direct care to the economically vulnerable and address policy, systems, and environmental changes.We prioritize efforts that will support future generations of South Carolinians.We are a catalytic funder, supporting projects as they gain sustainability by leveraging funds from key partners and we value innovative projects that can expand to multiple geographic areas in South Carolina.
We support projects that improve health outcomes and increase access to care here in the Palmetto State.
Funding Priorities
The Foundation focuses on programs and initiatives that are closely aligned with our health priorities and evolving approaches. These areas have been identified to improve health outcomes and decrease health disparities in the Palmetto State.
Health Priorities
Much of the Foundation’s current funding falls within the health priorities identified here. Projects outside of these three conditions are considered as they relate to evolving approaches and select initiatives.
Oral Health
Improving the oral health care system by increasing access, enhancing workforce development and supporting quality and innovation
Mental Health
Building resilience and well-being for youth and families by strengthening the mental health workforce, improving quality and coordination of mental health care and enhancing collaboration in communities to support families

Eligibility

To be eligible for grant funding, you must be:a nonprofit organization that has a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)a government agencyan educational/research institution that is tax-exemptWe will only accept one Letter of Intent per nonprofit organization during each grant cycle.

Ineligibility

We will not issue grants for:doctor, dentist or pharmacist salaries.capital campaigns including brick and mortar establishments.one-time or annual events, including sports tournaments, camps or event incentives.fundraising events, including purchase of tickets or tables, membership drives, raffles or auctions.individuals.political campaigns or activities that influence legislation.advertising.religious activities.indirect costs.other grant-making foundationsWe will not accept a Letter of Intent from an organization that has an open grant on the date the Letter of Intent is due.
