Bate Foundation Grant

The Harold H. Bate Foundation provides financial support to enhance education, youth, recreation, and quality of life in Craven, Pamlico, and Jones Counties, as well as East Carolina University. Grants are available to 501(c)(3) organizations serving these areas, ensuring that the legacy of philanthropist Harold H. Bate lives on. However, grants are not made to individuals, political campaigns, or religious organizations for theological purposes, maintaining a focus on community benefit.

Eligibility

Organizations are eligible for grants from the Trust if they have qualified for exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are not private foundations [as defined by Section 509(a) of the Code]; or are public instrumentalities.Any qualified organization serving Craven, Pamlico or Jones Counties may apply for a grant from the Foundation.Organizations receiving grants must be located in Craven, Pamlico or Jones Counties or provide services and benefits directly to Craven, Pamlico and Jones Counties.

Ineligibility

Grants are never made to the following:Organizations not located in, or providing services and benefits directly to the people in Craven, Pamlico and Jones Counties unless affiliated with East Carolina University.IndividualsPolitical campaignsActivities that influence legislationReligious organizations seeking funds for theological purposesApplications are also discouraged for the following:Services the public sector should be reasonably expected to provide.Endowments or memorials.Amounts clearly unrealistic for the Foundation’s budget.
