Overview

Avalanna Routh Memorial Award

Organization: Islanders Hockey Club Inc

Purpose: Award given annually to a player on the Islanders team who demonstrates the value of "doing more for others than yourself," inspired by Avalanna Routh's legacy.

  • Background: Avalanna Routh was a six-year-old girl who battled AT/RT (Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor), a rare form of brain cancer. She gained international recognition and touched many lives. The Islanders Hockey Club created this memorial award to honor her memory and continue her legacy of helping others. The trophy was funded by the King family through a backyard hockey tournament they organized.
